“In the Mood for Love” is a Hong Kong film directed by Wong Kar-Wai, starring Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung.It premiered on May 20 2000, at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Palm d’Or.

Every year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts one of the biggest events in the world of fashion: The Met Gala, the first Monday of May.

The Met’s costume Institute houses the largest collection of fashion in the world.

Every year they create a major exhibition opening on the first Monday in May.

-Andrew Bolton is the curator of the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum.

In 2015, he created the show called: “China:Through the looking Glass”.

It is a collaboration between the Costume Institutes and the department of Asian Art.

They  wanted to show how fashion designers look to China for inspiration.

This is the ongoing dialogue between the east and the west.

Andrew Bolton(Curator of the Costume Institute at the MET) said “In the Mood for Love” directed by Wong Kar Wai has been the greatest influence on designers.

Jean Paul Gauthier saw this movie many times and he loved it.

He said : “ The colors were fantastic.It is after that I did my Chinese Collection.”

Andrew Bolton(Curator)  thought that Wong Kar Wai was the right choice to be the artistic director of the exhibition “China: Through the looking Glass”. He said: “In the Mood for Love” is the filter between the art objects and the hight fashion”.

The show: “China: Through the looking Glass” is almost three time the size of our usual spring show.

In total there is 150 costumes and  accessories and over 40 designers.

More than 800,000 people visited the show “China: Through the Glass.”

It was the most visited exhibition in the Met ‘s history,topping Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.

The influence of the movie “In the Mood of Love” and his director Wong Kar Wai helped the Met Gala raised a record of 12.5 Million for the Museum.
